Blazers Register Best Finish at Regionals Since 2019

BIRMINGHAM - UAB Cross Country registered a 19th place team on Friday morning at the NCAA South Regional in Huntsville. The finish is the Blazers' highest in the meet since 2019.
Lidia Longo was the top Blazer to finish with a time of 21:04, breaking her personal best by 54 seconds. The time is also the 10th-best 6k time in school history.
Katie Keur also recorded her personal best 6k time coming in at 21:13. The time beat her previous best by 37 seconds.
Sangie Lincoln-Velez secured the third spot for the Blazers on Friday. The senior registered her personal best in her final cross country race of her career coming in with a time of 21:25, beating her previous best by 26 seconds.
Kenlie Nelson was the fourth Blazer to cross the finish line as she also ran her final cross country race of her career. She also set her personal best by six seconds, coming in at 22:00.
Kaitlyn Wende rounded out the top five for the Green and Gold, securing her personal best as well. The sophomore from Vestavia Hills came in with a time of 22:16 beating her previous best by 32 seconds.
Seniors Kyra Hayes and Ava Brooks rounded out the scoring for UAB. Brooks completed her final 6k race of her career by securing her personal best by one second.
The cross country team will transition to distance runners for Track & Field season which will begin in December.
