Men's Basketball Signs Preston Purifoy To NLI

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB head coach Mike Davis announced the signing of Preston Purifoy, a 6-5, 210-pound guard out of Conway, Ark., on Wednesday on the first day of the fall signing period. Purifoy is preparing to start his senior season at Conway High School.
"We are very excited about the addition of Preston to the UAB basketball program," UAB head coach Mike Davis said. "Preston is a very exciting player and will be fun for the fans to watch. He is a versatile player who can shoot, rebound and is a good ball handler. I think he will be a great fit in our program."
Purifoy is considered a three-star recruit by Rivals.com and was ranked as the No. 47 small forward in the ESPN.com national rankings following his junior season. According the "The Arkansas Hoop Report," Purifoy is ranked as the No. 2 prospect out of the state's 2010 basketball class.
Last season, Purifoy averaged 13.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game, despite playing with an injury for most of the year. He is a two-time (2008 and 2009) all-conference and all-state performer.
Purifoy has led Conway to back-to-back state tournament semifinal appearances and a record of 44-14 over the 2008 and 2009 seasons. Last season, Conway finished 24-4 overall
Purifoy was offered scholarships by Tulsa, Ole Miss, SMU and Drake, along with receiving interest from several other schools from across the country.
He maintains a 3.5 GPA and intends to major in business at UAB.
