BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB softball team volunteered at the local Ronald McDonald House Wednesday evening in Birmingham. The charity, located near Birmingham's numerous hospitals, offers families a place to stay while their children are receiving medical treatment.
The team brought a dinner that consisted of salad, lasagna and cookies to the current residents of the Ronald McDonald House located near campus.
"Over the years we have made lasting relationships with the people at Ronald McDonald House," head coach Marla Townsend said. "We are trying do service while providing them with food, but we end up getting so much in return from the experience."
While the lasagna cooked, the girls visited with the families and played with their children. The team engaged in a game of hide and seek with the kids and let some of the girls braid their hair.
