Stanfield Announces Signing of Three Recruits

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- UAB track and field head coach Ray Stanfield announced Monday the signing of three athletes for the 2008-09 season.
Kristina Vaughn and Sterling Cross, both natives of Alabama, along with Colleen Standridge, have signed National Letters of Intent to compete for the Blazers next season.
"We are very excited to be signing these three athletes," Stanfield said. "They have done well at their respective high schools and will be able to give us help in several areas."
Vaughn comes to UAB as an all-state performer from Bob Jones High School in Madison, Ala. Vaughn has earned the distinction in the 800-meter run, 4x400-meter relay, 4x800-meter relay and cross country.
Cross, a native of Montgomery, Ala., participates in the 400-meter hurdles, high jump, long jump and 800-meter dash for Alabama Christian School.
Standridge, a native of Palatine, Ill., is an all-state performer in the 4x800-meter relay at Palatine High School. This past year, she finished 11th at the Class AAA Illinois State Cross Country Championship. She was a member of the 2005 state champion in the 4x800-meter relay. She is also an all-state athlete in cross country.
