ATHENS, Ga. -- The UAB women's tennis team concluded the fall portion of its schedule Saturday with three singles matches at the ITA South Regional, hosted by the University of Georgia.
Giorgia Romeo was the last Blazer on the court and took her A Singles match with UCF's Andrea Yacaman to three sets before falling, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Teammate Evelien Strijker also played in the A flight, losing 6-1, 6-2 to Karen Nijssen, a seeded player from Ole Miss.
Jenny Cape represented UAB in the B Singles draw, which was moved indoors Saturday because of wet court conditions outside early in the day. Cape suffered a 6-4, 6-3 loss to Lindsey Mallory of Samford.
With this weekend's tournament, UAB head coach Krissy Hall wrapped up her first fall season with the Blazers. Hall, who jumped right in after taking over the program in September, now has three months to work with her team before the start of the 2009 spring campaign.
"The three tournaments we've played this fall have all been about preparing for the spring," Hall said. "We didn't have the results we wanted this weekend, but we played against some tough competition.
"I've seen improvement in each of our girls, and we will continue to work hard this winter to get ready for our spring season."
