BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB cross country will run for the second time this season at the 19th Crimson Classic Invitational at 5 p.m. Friday in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The Blazers' head coach Ray Stanfield chose to compete in the local meet instead of the Vanderbilt Invitational, which was originally scheduled, to showcase his team along side other Alabama schools and compete against Southeastern Conference teams.
"We haven't gone there in a couple of years and most all of the teams in the state will be there," Stanfield said. "To have the chance to run against some SEC schools and showcase our program within the state is something we like to do. Hopefully we will perform well."
The Blazers head into the meet after finishing in a tie for third place at the Belmont Opener to begin the season. Senior Elizabeth Ambrus was the individual runner-up at Belmont with a 4,000-meter time of 14:10.88.
Earlier this week, UAB was listed as No. 11 in the NCAA South Regional rankings.
