Women's Tennis Team Cruises Past Louisiana Monroe, 6-1

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB women's tennis team won for the 10th consecutive time, cruising past visiting Louisiana Monroe, 6-1.
The Blazers (13-1) swept doubles play and then took straight-set wins in singles in four matches to post the win.
Gulsah Esen was a 6-4, 6-2 winner at No. 1 singles over the Warhawks' Lena Satge while Nischa Maier-Knapp took a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 2 over ULM's Giovanna Arrondo.
At No. 3 singles, UAB's Julia von Samson won by a 6-1, 6-3 score over Elodie Burlet. ULM (9-9) picked up its only win in the match at No. 4 singles as Sharon Makhanga defeated the Blazers' Annemieke Elsholz, 6-2, 6-4.
UAB's Seden Soyalp was a 6-3, 6-3 winner at No. 5 singles over Marion Lehmann while Antonia Nugent garnered a win at No. 6 by default.
"I think we lacked intensity today in general," said UAB head coach Mert Ertunga. "But we were still able to manage to win the big points which created the positive score. Now we look forward to a strong finish to the season."
