UAB Earns 6-1 Road Victory at Lehigh

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's tennis team won its 10th match of the season on Tuesday when it traveled to Bethlehem, Pa. and earned a 6-1 victory over Lehigh. The Blazers blanked Lehigh in a total of five sets in the match to run their season record to 10-1, moving head coach Mert Ertunga one win away from his 200th career victory.
The Blazers lost a total of just three games in the doubles competition. Seniors Gulsah Esen and Julia von Samson won 8-1 at No. 1 and junior Antionia Nugent and senior Annemieke Elsholz won 8-2 at No. 2. Senior Nischa Maier-Knapp and junior Samrin Tanzeem earned an 8-0 victory at flight three to round out the doubles action.
Maier-Knapp earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1, while von Samson, this week's Conference USA Player of the Week, ran her singles win streak to 12 matches with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at flight two. At No. 3, freshman Magdalena Czernik won 6-0, 6-1 and Elsholz won 6-2, 6-3 at flight four.
Lehigh picked up its only win of the match at No. 5 singles, while at flight six, Nugent earned a 6-4, 6-0 victory.
The Blazers will next be in action on March 28 when they square-off with in-town foe Samford at 2:00 p.m.
