BIMRINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB baseball team takes the field this weekend looking to end a four-game losing streak as it hosts a three-game series with Central Arkansas beginning Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Young Memorial Field. The Blazers, 2-6, have had to cope with playing a grueling early-season schedule with its last four games being against nationally ranked teams (No. 14 Arizona State and No. 16 Alabama).
The series kicks off Friday and continues Saturday with game two at 3 p.m., a game time that was changed earlier this week to accommodate Blazer fans wanting to attend the men's basketball game versus Tulane in Bartow Arena at 1 p.m. Fans showing up to Saturday's baseball game with their men's basketball game ticket will receive free admission.
The two teams will conclude play Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Blazers and Bears will be meeting for the first time this weekend as UCA is playing in its first season as a NCAA Division I member after competing at the Division II level in the Gulf South Conference prior.
Central Arkansas is 5-3 on the year having just completed a three-game sweep of Saint Louis last weekend.
UAB is expected to start sophomore right-hander Mitch Kloskowski on Friday and freshman left-hander Shay Crawford on Saturday, while no Sunday starter has been projected. Kloskowski has made two starts already this season and has an ERA of 3.68 in 7.1 innings of work. Crawford has made two starts as well while also making a relief appearance at Alabama.
Central Arkansas will look to a trio of right-handers this weekend as Daniel Price, Matt Whitaker and Jonathan Ashworth are all expected to start this weekend. Price has stood out amongst the Bear staff with a 1-0 record and team-best 15 strikeouts.
Junior first baseman Ryan Keedy leads UAB with a .353 batting average and will be playing in his first-ever game at Young Memorial Field having sat out the season-opening series at the park. Senior third baseman Ryne Lovdahl has also been impressive, hitting .333 with a team-best nine runs scored.
Central Arkansas catcher Chris Davis leads the Bears with a .462 batting average, while driving in seven runs. First baseman Matt Warren is off to a strong start as well as he is looking to hit better than .400 for the second year-in-a-row. Warren is currently hitting .417 with two home runs and five RBI.
The series gets underway at 3 p.m. Friday afternoon and the first 100 fans in attendance for all three games this weekend will receive a free UAB fan Banner. Fans can follow all three games live on Gametracker at UABsports.com.
