Blazers Earn Four Singles Wins Against Nicholls State On Saturday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The UAB women's tennis team continued play at the Southern Miss Invitational on Saturday. The Blazers played both Nicholls State and Lamar in doubles before winning four of their five singles matches against Nicholls State.
In doubles action against Nicholls State, senior Antonia Nugent and freshman Evelien Strijker earned an 8-1 win at No. 1, while senior Seden Soyalp and freshman Jenny Cape lost 8-5 at No. 2.
Against Lamar, senior Gulsah Esen and Strijker lost 8-1 at No. 1 and Nugent and Cape lost 8-5 at No. 2.
Esen went the distance at No. 1 singles against Nicholls State, winning 5-7, 7-5, 10-8 against Forina Nosca. At flight two, Nugent earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Anne-Claire Mullier and Cape earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Sanja Stanojcic at No. 3.
Soyalp lost to Natalia Zamora, 6-4, 6-1 at flight four, while Strijker won 6-3,6-3 against Sumana Kalyanasundram at No. 5.
The Blazers will finish play at Southern Miss on Sunday.
