Cape Falls In ITA Regional Second Round Saturday

ATHENS, Ga. - Freshman Jenny Cape of the UAB women's tennis team won her opening round singles match in the "B" singles draw at the ITA South Regional at Georgia on Saturday before going on to lose in the round of 32. Senior Antonia Nugent was also representing the Blazers at the event, losing in the opening round of the "A" singles draw.
Cape played a pair of three-setters on Saturday. In her opening round match, the freshman came back after not winning a single game in the first set to beat UCF's Isabell Ohlinger, 0-6, 6-4, 6-1.
In her round of 32 match Saturday evening, Cape was ousted in three sets by Tulane's Stephanie Viera, 6-1, 6-7(8), 6-4.
Nugent lost her first round match to UCF's Elvira Serror, 6-1, 6-3 and will now compete in the consolation draw on Sunday.
Action continues on Sunday as Cape and Nugent team to compete in doubles.
