BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The 17th-ranked UAB men's soccer team hits the road to compete at the UNC Greensboro Men's Soccer Classic from Sept. 8-10. The tournament begins a four-game stretch of road games for the Blazers that head coach Mike Getman knows is important for his club.
"This weekend will certainly be a great test against two very talented teams," Getman said. "We open with one of the best teams in the country in UNC Greensboro on their home field. Then we have to play a very good Elon team. It is going to be a challenge, but it will be a challenge that we have worked hard for and are prepared for, so I am looking for positive results."
Leading the way for the Blazers will be senior forward Jerson Monteiro, who leads the team with two goals, two assists and six points on the year. Senior midfielder Lukasz Kwapisz (1g), junior forward Shane Elsner (1g), sophomore defender Dejan Jakovic (1g) and senior midfielder Derick Radcliffe (2a) have each contributed two points on the year to help lead the Blazer attack.
On the defensive side of the field, senior goalkeeper Jeremy Drake has recorded two shutouts and a 0.91 goals allowed average in the Blazers' four contests this season.
The Blazers will open play against tournament host No. 25 UNC Greensboro at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night. Following that contest, UAB will square off against Elon at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
