Soyalp Wins Flight C Singles Draw at UTC Classic

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The UAB men's and women's tennis teams completed play at the UTC Fall Classic on Sunday with Alex Emory highlighting the Blazers weekend by winning the flight C singles draw and then teamed with Adrian Tollstam to win the flight B doubles draw. On the women's side, Seden Soyalp won the flight C singles draw, while Nischa Maier-Knapp and Samrin Tanzeem won the flight B doubles flight.
In men's flight A singles action, UAB's Tim Bauer lost his semifinal match, 6-3, 6-1, while Johannes Spangenberg lost in the semifinals as well, losing 6-2, 6-3. In flight B, Kruno Despotovski won his semifinal match 6-1, 6-4 before losing in the finals to Tim Mittiga, 6-4, 6-2. Emory won flight C by winning 6-1, 6-2 in the semifinals before going on to defeat Andrew Poole, 6-3,6-3 in the championship match.
In doubles play, Bauer and Spangenberg lost 8-5 in the semifinals in flight A, while Depotovski and Thomas Weis lost in the semifinals in flight B, 8-3. On the other half of the "B" flight, UAB's Emory and Tollstam won 8-3 in the semifinals before going on to beat Dushock/Miletic, 9-8 (9), in the finals.
In women's action, Julia von Samson lost 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinal round. In flight B, Tanzeem lost in the semifinals, 6-2, 6-1, while Seden Soyalp earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory in the semifinals in flight C before winning the finals, 6-1, 6-2 against Adriana Alvarez.
In doubles, Gulsha Essen and Von Samson lost 8-5 in the semifinals. On the other half of the draw, Anna Meike Elsholz and Antonia Nugent also lost in the semifinals, 9-7. In flight B, Maier-Knapp and Tanzeem came away with the crown after an 8-5 victory in the finals.
The men's and women's tennis teams will be back in action Sept. 30 - Oct. 1 as the men compete in the Southern Miss Championships, while the women head to California to compete in the Riviera All-American Championships.
