UAB Softball To Host Annual Blazer Bash Weekend

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Fans and alumni are encouraged to join the UAB softball team at the fifth annual Blazer Bash on Friday, Sept. 22, at 6 p.m. CT. The event, which will be held in the Green and Gold room at Bartow Arena, is an opportunity for Blazer fans to meet the 2006-07 UAB softball team.
"We are looking forward to introducing the 2006-07 UAB Softball team Friday night," UAB head coach Marla Townsend said. "This is a chance for our friends, family, and supporters to get to know the team, share a night of fond memories and to explore future goals of the UAB softball team. It is always fun to face the alumni in our annual Green and Gold Alumni game. They are a very competitive group and will really challenge us on the field"
The Blazer Bash banquet includes dinner and a free t-shirt with reservations. Reservations should be made through UAB assistant coach Lucy Bass at (205) 975-1759 or by e-mail at lucy1@uab.edu. After the banquet, everyone is encouraged to attend the UAB volleyball match as the Blazers take on Rice in Bartow Arena beginning at 7 p.m.
Saturday morning features the always entertaining Alumni Game starting at 11 a.m. at George Ward Park Field 6. The weekend of events will come to a close Saturday night at with a tailgate party in the southwest corner of Legion Field prior to kickoff of the UAB-Mississippi State game. It is the first time in school history the Blazers will host a Southeastern Conference opponent.
UAB's individual award winners will also be honored on Friday in regards to the numerous accomplishments that were garnered throughout the 2006 season. The Blazers finished one of the greatest seasons in school history a year ago, closing with a 31-22 overall record. The 31 victories last year marked the second most wins in program history. UAB also set numerous records this year including the single-season home run (10), RBI (39), walk (31) and strikeout records (214).
