BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB women's tennis team will take on Tulsa Friday at 10 a.m., at the 2006 Conference USA Championship at the Garland Tennis Complex outside Dallas, Texas. The Blazers, who enter the championship as the No. 4 seed, take a five-match winning streak into the competition. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
UAB improved to 12-5 overall with a 4-3 victory over Middle Tennessee last week. The Blazers outscored their opponents 28-7 over the final five contests of the regular season. Junior Ornischa Maier-Knapp leads UAB with a 12-5 overall mark in 2006, including her own eight-match win streak.
Tulsa crushed cross-town rival Oral Roberts, 7-0, on Tuesday night at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the TU campus. The Golden Hurricane, under the direction of first-year head coach Dean Orford, concluded the regular season with a 13-11 mark.
