UAB Softball Set To Host First-Place Tulsa

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB softball team will host a three-game series with first-place Tulsa this weekend at George Ward Park. The Blazers are scheduled to play a doubleheader Saturday against the Golden Hurricane starting at 3 p.m. with the final game of the series Sunday at noon. UAB is 18-14 overall and 5-4 in the conference. TU has won five straight games and has a 23-10 mark with an 8-1 Conference USA record.
This weekend will be the fourth meeting between the two schools. UAB leads the all-time series against TU, 2-1. UAB last faced TU during the 2004 season in the Tulsa Festival. The Blazers beat the Golden Hurricane, 3-1, on Feb. 28th. The previous two meetings were in Compass Bank Invitational held in Waco, Texas during the 2003 season. UAB won the first game, 2-1, on Feb. 22 but TU came back to win the second, 4-2 on Feb. 23.
UAB is led by sophomore Holly Krzan and junior Lindsay Stanley. Krzan is hitting .363 in 32 games with 28 RBI. Stanley leads UAB with 38 hits and has the second highest batting average (.333). Jennifer Nelson has handled most of the pitching duties this season. In 15 appearances this year, Nelson has a 1.53 ERA with an 8-5 overall record.
TU is currently the hottest team in C-USA after winning 10 of its last 11 games. The Golden Hurricane is led by Katie Torres and Brooke Smart. Torres leads the team in RBI's with 20 and has a .333 batting average in 33 games. Smart has hit six home runs and has a .567 slugging percentage.
