BRADENTON, Fla. --- The UAB women's golf team jumped two positions from the first round to the second on the opening day of the Waterlefe Invitational to card a team score of 695 on the par-72 Waterlefe Golf and River Club course. The Blazers currently stand in 11th place after Monday's action ahead of St. John's, Rutgers and St. Leo.
"Today the conditions were very tough but we continued to improve our scores after each round," said UAB head coach Kim Wilcox. "It was very windy, and it's a challenging course. We have room for improvement and we hope to finish up strong in the final round tomorrow."
UCF sits atop the leader board with a 621, two shots better than Florida International (623). USF and Louisville are tied for third after two rounds, while Campbell and Miami both are in fourth place.
Freshman Christina Wentworth led the Blazers with an 82 in the second round to finish tied for 33rd. Junior Martha Hudson is tied for 57th with an 85 in round two, while senior Janey Deimling is 60th with an 82 to finish the day.
