UAB Women's Tennis Dominates Lady Mocs, 6-1

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The UAB women's tennis team dominated the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Friday evening, 6-1, to remain undefeated on the season. The Blazers spoiled the Lady Mocs home opener inside the Hixson Racquet Club and improved to 3-0 on the year.
"I'm extremely happy with the way our girls played today," said UAB head coach Mert Ertunga. "Anytime you can start the season 3-0 it has to make you happy. I think the girls have played well for the last two weeks and it has shown. We are entering a tough stretch that will determine our future. We feel like we are playing well and looking forward to the match against Mississippi State."
UAB took the early advantage after winning the doubles points. Junior Ornischa Maier-Knapp and sophomore Gulsah Esen won at the No. 2 doubles position, 8-0, while UAB sophomores Seden Soyalp and Antonia Nugent pulled out the victory in the third spot, 8-2.
The Blazers managed to seal the match in singles play after defeating the Lady Mocs at the No. 2 through No. 6 positions. Maier-Knapp won at No. 2 over Lindsey Ballard in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Annemieke Elsholz defeated Talita Bragato at No. 3, while Esen pulled out the victory at the No. 4 position. Samrin Tanzeem and Soyalp both competed in singles and won at their respective positions.
