Rain Shortens Day One of ITA Regionals

TUSCALUSA, Ala. - Inclement weather forced a shortened first day at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) South Regional on Thursday. Play was moved indoors where all first round matches in the "A" singles draw were completed. Two UAB players were selected to the "A" draw, with both Julia von Samson and Nischa Maier-Knapp losing in straight sets. Both players will now play in the consolation draw on Friday.
Von Samson lost her opening round match to Lara Fakhoury of Georgia, 6-3, 6-0 and will now face Csilla Borsanyi of Florida on Friday in the consolation. Maier-Knapp lost her first match to Kristen Flower of Georgia Tech, 6-2, 6-2 and will now take on Emese Sulyos of Jacksonville.
Competition resumes on Friday and will continue through Sunday.
