BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB baseball team hits the road for a three-game Conference USA series against USF this weekend at Red McEwen Field in Tampa, Fla. Friday's game one is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET with UAB's Cole Helms (1-0, 3.86 ERA) taking the mound against the Bulls' Casey Hudspeth (6-2, 3.08 ERA).
The Blazers enter the weekend with a 22-11 overall record and 7-5 mark in C-USA play. UAB is coming off its most lopsided defeat of the season, a 12-0 loss to Birmingham-Southern at home on Tuesday at Young Memorial Field. The loss ended the Blazers' school-record 14-game home winning streak and marked the first time UAB was shut out this season.
USF is 20-18 overall and 7-4 in conference games. The Bulls will be looking to snap a five-game losing streak which includes two losses to future Conference USA member UCF with a three-game sweep by TCU sandwiched in between.
The Blazers are just 33-55 all-time against USF. Those 88 matchups are the most for UAB against any single team in school history. The Bulls defeated the Blazers twice in Birmingham last season to take the series.
Jeff Brown (5-2, 4.10 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound for the Blazers in Saturday's game two at 1 p.m. He will oppose USF's Daniel Thomas (6-3, 3.40 ERA). Grant Addison (0-1, 8.15 ERA) will get the ball for UAB in Sunday's series finale. The Bulls' starter is still yet to be determined.
