BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB women's tennis team hosts two opponents this weekend. UAB takes on Conference USA foe Southern Miss on Saturday at 1 p.m., before hosting Middle Tennessee State on Sunday at 1 p.m., with both matches being held at Brook Highland Racquet Club. The Blazers are unbeaten against Southern Miss, tallying an 8-0 record in the series, but trail the Lady Raiders, 6-4, in that series.
UAB saw its six-match winning streak come to a halt, as Georgia State defeated the Blazers, 7-0, Friday. UAB's lone win came at the No. 1 doubles spot, as Gulsah Esen and Ornischa Maier-Knapp defeated Mateja Podgorsek and Simona Foltyn, 8-5. The Blazers were swept in the singles matches, despite forcing two matches to three sets.
Southern Miss dropped to 10-5 on the season after a 6-1 loss to McNeese State on Saturday. Sherry Price tallied the only point for the Lady Eagles, winning her match at the No. 2 position. Southern Miss faces Samford Friday before taking on the Blazers.
Middle Tennessee State has not taken the court since March 20, with a 5-2 win over North Texas. The win improved to the Lady Raiders to 6-10 overall. Ann-Kristin Siljestrom leads the Lady Raiders with an 11-5 singles mark in 2005.
