BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB women's tennis team heads to Atlanta to take on Georgia State on Thursday at 2 p.m. (ET). This will be the fourth time the Blazers and Georiga State have faced each other. UAB has won all three previous meetings, including a 4-3 win in 2004.
UAB has won six-consecutive matches, including a dramatic 4-3 win over Murray State Sunday. The Blazers are currently 5-0 in the month of March, with all five matches being played at home.
Freshman Antonia Nugent won a three-set match at No. 6 singles to lead UAB over Murray State. Murray State started the contest by taking the doubles point and the 1-0 lead. In singles action, the matches were back and forth, as UAB played catch-up most of the day, until Nugent won the No. 6 tilt.
Georgia State is currently 11-4 on the season and has won seven of its last eight matches and three in a row. The Lady Panthers defeated Mercer, 6-1, on Wednesday. The doubles duo of Anne Breiholtz and freshman Kiera Strickland tallied a win to improve their record to a perfect 8-0. Four of Georgia State's singles players won in straight sets against Mercer.
