ATLANTA - The UAB softball team will face the Georgia State Lady Panthers on Friday in a non-conference doubleheader set for a 3 p.m. start at Bob Heck Field.
The Blazers (12-19) dropped two of three games to East Carolina in their first Conference USA series of the season on Wednesday, falling to the Pirates 8-3 on Wednesday after spitting the first two games on Tuesday at George Ward Park.
UAB and Georgia State (9-18) have met eight times in history, with each team winning four games. The Blazers won a pair of games over the Panthers during the 2003 season, winning by scores of 2-1 and 3-0. UAB owns a 4-4 record in doubleheaders this season.
The Blazers opened conference play on Tuesday by winning their first game over ECU in thrilling fashion as senior first baseman Kris Lara hit a three-run home run to lift UAB to a come-from-behind 3-1 win before the Blazers fell by a score of 8-3 in the nightcap.
"We are excited about playing Georgia State and feel like having a few conference games under our belt will only help us in these games," said UAB head coach Marla Townsend.
UAB will meet Mississippi State next Tuesday, March 22 at 6 p.m. in Starkville, Miss., and then return to conference action when the Blazers play host to DePaul March 25-26 in Birmingham.
