UAB Men's Soccer Unveils Spring Schedule

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB's men's soccer team will face two Major League Soccer teams and play five local matches in their 2005 spring exhibition schedule, head coach Mike Getman announced today. The spring soccer season begins this Saturday, March 5 with a 2 p.m. contest against Montevallo at West Campus Field.
The Blazers will face the Colorado Rapids at West Campus Field on Saturday, March 11, and will battle the Chicago Fire in Jackson, Miss., on March 21.
"We are fortunate to be able to play some tough competition in the spring," UAB head coach Mike Getman said. "The matches give our players an opportunity to get valuable experience in preparation for next season. Obviously, the better competition you face, the more you can learn. We are excited to have the chance to play all of these teams."
UAB will play Furman and Conference USA rival Memphis at Birmingham's 96 Fields on April 9 in an invitational round robin hosted by the Alabama Youth Soccer Association before closing out the spring exhibitions with a match against UAB Soccer Alumni on April 16 at West Campus Field.
Getman's club was both regular season and postseason tournament runners-up in Conference USA last year. The Blazers return all but two letterwinners for the 2005 campaign.
