BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB women's basketball team is seeded 10th in the 2005 Pepsi C-USA Women's Basketball Tournament to be held March 3-6, in Charlotte, N.C., it was announced by league officials on Sunday. UAB will take on seventh-seeded Marquette on Thursday, March 3, at 8:30 p.m. (ET). The tournament is being hosted by Charlotte and will be played at Dale F. Halton Arena. UAB head coach Audra Smith is taking the Blazers to the Conference USA Tournament in her first year with the team.
"I am extremely pleased to be the 10th seed in this season's Conference USA tournament." said Smith. "We're looking forward to the opportunity to face Marquette. They are a very talented team with balance. We started preparing earlier today and know we have our work cut out for us. We are preparing the team to step up to the challenge with a positive attitude and to take each game at a time. We are also getting ready for the excitement leading up to our participation in the tournament."
UAB closed out its regular season with a 70-43 loss at USF on Saturday. The Bulls' Jessica Dickson tallied 34 points in the win. Freshman LaKitha Murray, who ran the point for most of the game for the first time in her career, had her fourth consecutive double-digit performance with 11 points. Murray also had 11 rebounds for the second double-double of her career. Sophomore Crystal McFadden led the Blazers with 22 points and two steals in 35 minutes against the Bulls.
