Blazer Duo Advances To Doubles Final At ITA Southern Regionals

ATHENS, Ga. --- UAB's duo of Antonia Nugent and Seden Soyalp advanced to the finals of flight "B" doubles in the third day of competition at the ITA Southern Regionals here at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Nugent and Soyalp defeated UCF's Jahwari and Serrot, 8-4, and will compete in the finals on Sunday.
"Antonia and Seden have played very well for us in this tournament," said UAB head coach Mert Ertunga. "As I've said before, this is some of the best competition in the region and I think we've had some good, solid performances."
Gulsah Esen advanced to the semifinals of the consolation draw of flight "A" after a 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 win over Florida State's Suzanna Mansour and a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Nikkita Fountain of Florida International.
In flight "B" consolations, Nugent advanced to the semifinals after she defeated Georgia State's Kimberly Wollett and Carolina Melo of North Florida, 6-4, 7-5.
In singles flight "B", Soyalp fell in the quarterfinals to Anna Yakimchenkova of UCF, 6-2, 6-0. Julia von Samson was also defeated in the quarterfinals, losing to Mississippi State's Renee Joseph, 6-4, 6-3.
Annemieke Elsholz received a bye in the opening round of flight "B" consolations, but lost in the second round after she was forced to default to Grace Kammerer of Southern Miss.
Play finishes Sunday morning.
