Women's Basketball Begins Conference Play By Hosting Cincinnati

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB women's basketball team begins its Conference USA slate by hosting Cincinnati on Friday at 7 p.m. UAB continues action on Sunday by taking on Louisville Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Blazers lost to Georgia Tech, 74-49, on Monday in Atlanta. The loss broke UAB's two-game win streak. The Blazers are lead by Carmen Guzman's 15.7 points and Crystal McFadden's 5.2 rebounds per game. UAB is hitting 34.4 percent of its shots from the floor, including 33.1 percent from beyond the arc.
Cincinnati slipped to 5-7 overall with two-consecutive losses. The Bearcats fell at Middle Tennessee, 64-47, on Dec. 29, before losing to Arkansas, 66-54, last Sunday. Toni Slaughter leads Cincinnati with 11.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. As a team, the Bearcats are averaging 58.0 points per contest and are shooting 37.1 percent from the floor.
UAB holds a 13-7 advantage in its series with Cincinnati, although the Bearcats have won the last four meetings between the two squads. The Blazers fell at Cincinnati in their last meeting, 69-58, on Feb. 8, 2004.
