BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB women's basketball team heads to Texas this weekend, for their first C-USA road games of the season. UAB will take on Houston on Friday at 7 p.m. before heading to Fort Worth to play TCU on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Blazers began their conference schedule by going 1-1 last weekend. UAB defeated Cincinnati on Friday before falling to Louisville two days later. Against the Bearcats, UAB overcame an early deficit for the 63-45 victory. It was the first time the Blazers defeated Cincinnati in five games. On Sunday, UAB was plagued by late-game shooting woes, as it fell to Louisville, 74-59. The Blazers cut the Cardinals' lead to 46-43, with 11:52 in the contest, but were outscored 28-16 the rest of the way.
Houston improved to 11-3 overall and 2-0 in C-USA with wins over Tulane and Southern Miss this past weekend. The Cougars are being led by Sancho Lyttle's 20.0 points and 12.6 rebounds per game. Additionally, Daphne Andre is contributing 11.7 and 4.4 per contest. Houston is a perfect 5-0 at home and is shooting 40.9 percent from the floor as a team, while averaging 69.1 points per game.
UAB holds an 8-4 advantage in its series with Houston, but has lost the last two meetings. The Cougars defeated the Blazers, 48-39, in Bartow Arena last season. UAB last beat Houston on Feb. 1, 2002, taking an 86-55 victory.
