UAB Women's Tennis Continues Good Play At Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. ----- The UAB women's tennis team had another successful day, as it competed in the second day of the UTC Baras Fall Classic here on Saturday. Two Blazers, Ornischa Maier-Knapp and Gulsah Esen, advanced to the final of their flights and will face each other in the championship on Sunday.
Maier-Knapp advanced by defeating Memphis' Kristin Noble, 6-3, 6-1, and Tara Hartness of Wofford, 1-6, 6-3, 6-1. Esen won her quarterfinal match over Memphis' Andrea Feichtinger, 6-2, 6-4, before defeating Katrina Domela of Tennessee-Martin, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.
In flight "A", Julia von Samson won her opening match over Belmont's Elizabeth Conver, 6-1, 6-0. Von Samson then lost her semifinal match, losing to Anna Lask of Murray State, 6-2, 6-1. In the consolation round of the same flight, Antonia Nugent lost to Jacksonville State's Zeynep Gurkaynak, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0.
In flight "C", Seden Soyalp defeated Murray State's Christian Hall, 6-7, 6-3, 7-5, to advance to the semifinals before falling to Katie Rhodes of Belmont, 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. Jana Wild fell in her quarterfinal match to Murray State's Tami McQueen, 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles flight "A", UAB's Annemieke Elsholz and Maier-Knapp fell to Feichtinger and Noble of Memphis, 8-2. Esen and Nugent lost to Wofford's Hare and Williams, 8-0.
In flight "B", Tanzeem and Wild were defeated by Murray State's Hall and Leeper, 9-8, while Soyalp and von Samson lost to Tennessee-Martin's De Wet and Gunn, 8-4.
Competition continues on Sunday.
