UAB Women's Tennis Defeated By DePaul, 6-0

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB women's tennis team was defeated by DePaul, 6-0, here on Saturday afternoon, as the Blazers drop to 7-12 overall and 2-4 in Conference USA action.
"I'm disappointed in how we played today," said UAB head coach Mert Ertunga. "We were far from playing out best tennis. We'll have to do a lot better tomorrow if we want to win."
UAB won at No. 3 doubles, as the Blazers' Nadia Dellarciprete and Samrin Tanzeem defeated DePaul's Karen Falduto and Petra Rehusova, 9-8.
However, UAB was not able to tally another doubles win, giving the Blue Demons the point. At the No. 1 spot, DePaul's Natalie Matko and Marina Parashkevova beat the Blazers' Femke de Boer and Marrit Jansma, 8-2. In the No. 2 position, the Blazers' Annemieke Elsholz and Julia von Samson fell to the Blue Demons' Gergana Ganeva and Stephanie Matko, 8-5.
DePaul continued to dominate singles action, winning all five completed matches. The Blue Demons' Ganeva was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over UAB's de Boer in the No. 1 tilt. In the No. 2 slot, the Blazers' Elsholz fell to DePaul's Parashkevova, 6-2, 6-0. At the No. 3 position, UAB's Jansma defeated the Blue Demons' Natalie Matko, 6-4, 6-1. In the No. 4 spot, the Blazers' von Samson fell to DePaul's Brenda Leung, 6-4, 6-1. UAB's Dellarciprete was a 6-4, 6-3 loser to the Blue Demons' Rehusova in the No. 5 tilt.
The No. 6 singles match between the Blazers' Tanzeem and the Blue Demons' Falduto did not finish.
UAB hosts Cincinnati on Sunday at 9 a.m. and Memphis at 2 p.m. at Brook Highland Racquet Club.
