Men's Soccer Announces 2004 Schedule

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- A trip to compete at the prestigious Portland Tournament, the annual UAB La Quinta Classic and 10 home games highlight the UAB men's soccer 2004 fall schedule, which was announced by head coach Mike Getman. In addition, the Blazers will play four NCAA Tournament teams from last season and will also compete in three tournaments during the season.
After opening the season with exhibition games at Clemson on Aug. 21 and playing host to Mobile on Aug. 25, the Blazers will make the first of three consecutive tournament appearances. UAB will begin the season at the Portland Tournament in Portland, Ore. The Blazers will open the tournament with host Portland on Sept. 4, followed by a match against Gonzaga on Sept. 6.
The following weekend, UAB will travel to Davidson, N.C. to compete at the Davidson Classic on Sept. 10-12. The Blazers will face UNC Greensboro (Sept. 10) and Davidson (Sept. 12) over the weekend.
UAB will then conclude its tournament stretch by hosting the seventh annual UAB La Quinta Classic on Sept. 19-21 at West Campus Field. The Blazers will play Charlotte (Sept. 19) and Western Kentucky (Sept. 21), while Birmingham-Southern will also compete in the classic.
UAB closes out the month of September with a road game at Marquette (Sept. 25) before playing host to in-state foe Alabama A&M on Sept. 29.
Of UAB's seven games in the month of October, five of them will be played at West Campus Field. The month will begin with a home conference match against Cincinnati (Oct. 2), before traveling to St. Louis, Mo. to take on last year's C-USA champions St. Louis on Oct. 9. The Blazers will then have three consecutive home games against East Carolina (Oct. 16), USF (Oct. 20) and Birmingham-Southern (Oct. 23). UAB will close the month out with an away match at Memphis (Oct. 27) and will return home to face Kentucky (Oct. 30).
The Blazers will then close the season with two games in November. UAB will play at Louisville on Nov. 2, before returning home to face DePaul on senior night on Nov. 6. The Conference USA Tournament will be from Nov. 11-14 in Louisville, Ky.
Last season, the Blazers finished 10-5-5 overall and 4-3-2 in C-USA. UAB also reached the highest ranking in the program's history with a No. 3 national-ranking for the week of Sept. 29.
