UAB Remains In Fourth Heading Into Final Round Of Conference USA Championship

TAMPA, Fla. ----- The UAB men's golf team shaved six strokes off its first-round score; however, the Blazers remain in fourth overall through two rounds of the Conference USA Championship. After opening the championship with a team score of 300 on Monday, the Blazers carded a 294 on Tuesday and sits just eight strokes out of second place with a total team score of 594.
The Blazers continue to be led by sophomore Nathan Turner, who has not led UAB in a tournament through the entire season. Turner carded an even par 72 on the afternoon and has a total score of 146 (74-72) to sit in a tie for seventh overall. The Birmingham, Ala. native has only played in three other tournaments this season, with his best finish coming at the Billy Hitchcock Intercollegiate where he tied for 39th overall.
Another sophomore in Clark Brown also fired a 72 in the second round, and sits in a tie for 10th overall with a 147 (75-72) on the par 72, 7,153-yard Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club. Sophomore Tigh VanLeeuwen shot a 75 for the second consecutive day, and is tied for 23rd overall with a 150 (75-75), while junior Ryan Thomas also shot a 75 and is tied for 29th with a 151 (76-75). Garrett Osborn rounds out the UAB golfers and is tied for 51st with a 156 (77-79) overall.
TCU's Adam Meyer continues to hold the number one overall ranking after shooting a three-under, 69 on Tuesday, giving him a two-day total of seven-under, 137. Meyer is the only player to shoot under par during the first two days of the tournament as he continues to hold the top spot on the individual leader board, seven shots ahead of the rest of the field.
With Meyer's consistent shooting, TCU continues to hold to its overall lead with a two-day total of 572 (286-286), now 15 strokes ahead of second place Charlotte (301-286/587). Southern Miss sits alone in third place with a two-day total of 591 (298-293), just three strokes ahead of the Blazers. USF trails UAB by three strokes and is in fifth overall with a 597 (305-292).
Tulane (308-293/601), Louisville (304-298/602), East Carolina (305-298/603), Houston (297-307/604) and Marquette (309-296/605), respectively, hold down spots 6-10 in the tourney, while Saint Louis (317-291/608), Memphis (308-301/609), Cincinnati (316-312/628) and DePaul (322-318/640) stand in spots 11-14.
The final round of play begins at 6:45 a.m. CST on Wednesday.
