BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB softball team will take a break from its rigorous Conference USA schedule on Tuesday as the Blazers square off against the Chattanooga Lady Mocs in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. at George Ward Park.
UAB (16-26) heads into Tuesday's competition looking to end a pair of streaks.
The Blazers have been defeated in their previous eight games and would like to put an end to Chattanooga's nine-game winning streak. UAB has not won a game since a 2-1 victory over Louisville on March 27, while the Lady Mocs have not dropped a contest since a March 28th defeat at the hands of Georgia Southern, 3-0.
Chattanooga (33-20) has been victorious in 14 of their previous 17 games and the Lady Mocs own an impressive 8-1 record against Southern Conference opponents. During its nine-game winning streak, Chattanooga has posted series sweeps over Tennessee Wesleyan, UNC Greensboro and Appalachian State.
After earning a doubleheader split against Middle Tennessee on March 22, UAB has dropped eight of its last nine games, including the previous eight. The Blazers dropped the final two games of their C-USA series versus Louisville and then suffered three-game sweeps against both Southern Miss and Houston.
Earlier this season, UAB and Chattanooga split a non-conference doubleheader held at Jim Frost Stadium located in Chattanooga, Tenn.
In the first game, the Lady Mocs exploded for a 10-0 blowout victory in five innings, while UAB rebounded with a lopsided 7-1 win in the second contest of the day. With the doubleheader split, the Blazers maintained their advantage in the all-time series, 2-1. The teams have never met at George Ward Park and Tuesday's meeting will be the first matchup held in Birmingham.
The UAB softball team will look to put an end to Chattanooga's nine-game winning streak on Tuesday as the Blazers host the Lady Mocs in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. at George Ward Park Field No. 6.
Admission is free to all UAB home softball games and the first 150 fans will receive a commemorative UAB Softball Cup.
