BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB junior Chris Cousins was named the Conference USA men's golfer of the month for February, announced league officials Wednesday. Cousins earned the award for the second time this season, also receiving the honor for the month of September.
"I am real proud of Chris and I feel that he is very deserving of this honor," UAB men's golf coach Alan Kaufman said. "Chris has continued his great play from the fall and he is quickly developing into a first-class collegiate player."
The Abernant, Wales native captured medalist honors at the opening event of the spring, the Gator Invitational with a three-under par 207 (67-70-70) at the 70-par, 6,701-yard University of Florida Golf Club. Cousins led the Blazers to second place, finishing ahead of seven nationally-ranked teams in the field of 15 squads. The only ranked team that UAB did not beat was tournament host No. 1 Florida. It was Cousins' second career title, also winning the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate last fall and helping UAB to the team crown at the event.
UAB's next tournament action will be March 12-14 at the Conrad Rehling Invitational in Brookwood.
