UAB Men's Golf Finishes In Seventh At Conrad Rehling Spring Invitational

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. --- The UAB men's golf team finished in seventh place here Sunday at the 2004 Conrad Rehling Spring Invitational hosted by the University of Alabama.
Sophomore Clark Brown (72-78-72) was the Blazers' top individual finisher, placing 16th overall after shooting a 222 over three rounds. Fellow sophomore Tigh VanLeeuwen was close behind (77-73-74) as he tied for 21st place for UAB, carding a 224. Freshman Garrett Osborn (78-74-73) tied for 23rd after scoring a 225, while junior Ryan Thomas (77-76-74) tied for 32nd with a 227 in the tournament. UAB's fifth golfer, sophomore Nathan Turner (79-75-85) finished tied for 65th, posting a 239.
As a team, UAB shot an 895, 17 strokes behind tournament winner Alabama's 878. Jacksonville State placed second in the event, shooting an 880 as a team. In third was Kentucky with an 881 as a team. The Wildcats' John Holmes (69-69-71) took the individual title, shooting a 209 in the three-round tournament. Ole Miss finished the event in fourth at 884, just three shots behind the leading trio. Kent State and Toledo tied for sixth at 887 followed by UAB, Georgia State (898), Notre Dame (906), North Florida (910), Tulane (911), Mississippi State (921) and Michigan State (923).
Next, the Blazers will defend their title in the Billy Hitchcock Invitational on April 8-10 in Opelika, Ala. The tournament will be UAB's final tune-up before heading to the Conference USA Championships on April 19-21.
