Beth Mullins Earns 2004 Paradise Classic All-Tournament Honors

HONOLULU --- Beth Mullins, UAB softball team's starting second baseman, was officially named to the all-tournament team of the 2004 Paradise Classic on Monday, as the Blazers' senior from Fairhope, Ala., registered a .471 batting average throughout the prestigious four-day competition held in Honolulu, Hawai'i.
Mullins, who accumulated eight singles in 17 at-bats over the weekend, finished the six-team tournament with five RBI and a stellar .526 on-base percentage. She started all six games at second base for the Blazers and knocked in UAB's game-winning run against the homestanding Hawaii Rainbow Wahine on Thursday.
The 25th-ranked Tennessee Lady Vols won the championship title of the Hawaii Paradise Classic and had four players named to the all-tournament team. Oregon State, which began the season as the 23rd-ranked team in the nation, lost to Tennessee, 2-0, in Sunday's championship game, but finished with a Paradise Classic-high five players earn all-tournament honors.
UAB's Mullins and infielder Tyleen Tausaga of Hawai'i were the only two players not from either Oregon State or Tennessee to be named to the 2004 Paradise Classic All-Tournament team.
The UAB softball team will next be in action on Saturday, Feb. 14, as the Blazers head south to Troy, Ala., for a doubleheader against the Troy State Lady Trojans beginning at 1 p.m., at the Lady Trojan Softball Complex.
