Women's Basketball To Face Alabama In Tuscaloosa

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to play Alabama on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Blazers are renewing their rivalry with the Crimson Tide, as the two teams have not met since the 2000-01 season.
UAB last defeated Alabama, 84-72, on March 18, 2001, as the Blazers hosted the Crimson Tide in the second round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament. The two teams have met 19 times, with Alabama holding a 13-6 advantage in the series.
UAB is coming off a 97-62 loss at North Carolina State last Saturday. Carmen Guzman led all scorers with 21 points in the contest, including 16 in the second half. Freshman Diamond Rogers added 11 to the cause. The Wolfpack had all 12 players score, including four players in double-digits. UAB only 21-of-66 from the floor for 31.8 percent, while North Carolina State hit an impressive 59.4 percent from the floor, making 38-of-64 attempts. The Blazers tallied nine steals in the contest.
Alabama fell at Virginia Tech, 72-59, last Saturday, breaking its four-game winning streak. The Crimson Tide is now 4-1 on the season, including a 2-0 mark at home. Alabama is led by Marverly Nettles, who averages 14.2 points per game and is hitting 50.0 percent of her shots. Dee Merriweather is the leading rebounder for Alabama, bringing down an average of 8.8 boards per contest. The Crimson Tide is averaging 75.4 points per game, while only allowing 63.6.
