UAB Women's Tennis Has Two Advance At ITA Regionals

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The UAB women's tennis team continued competition Saturday here at the Wilson/ITA South Regional Championships. The Blazers had two athletes advance to Sunday's competition.
In the consolation round of singles flight B, Ornischa Maier-Knapp won two matches to advance. Maier-Knapp defeated Grace Kammerer of Southern Miss, 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 before beating Troy's Christina Mancheno, 6-3, 6-0. Maier-Knapp will face South Florida's Luisa Obando on Sunday.
In the same round, Antonia Nugent also advanced to Sunday's action by winning two matches today. Nugent beat Southern Miss' Jennifer Sibille, 6-4, 7-5, prior to defeating Elizabeth Conyer of Belmont, 6-2, 6-2. Nugent will play Georgia State's Simona Foltyn.
Seden Soyalp won one match in the same round as well on Saturday, before falling in her second match of the day. Soyalp was a 6-2, 6-4, winner over Troy's Nicole Shaw before being knocked off by Mississippi State's Magdi Rekasi,6-1, 6-2.
In the consolation round of singles flight A, Annemieke Elsholz fell to Ana Kurekova of South Alabama, 6-3, 6-2. Gulsah Esen was defeated by Auburn's Ashley Cowart, 1-6, 6-1 (10-7).
In singles flight B's consolation round, Jana Wild lost to Jacksonville State's Rebecca Gorman, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4).
UAB continues to compete in the Wilson/ITA South Regional Championships on Sunday.
