Women's Tennis Finishes Strong At Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. ----- The UAB women's tennis team continued its good play in the final day of competition at the UTC Baras Fall Classic here on Sunday, making appearances in three finals. Unfortunately, the Blazers were not able to tally a win in the final rounds.
Nadia Dellarciprete continued to be UAB's strongest player, appearing in the women's C singles final as well as the women's B doubles final with partner Julia von Samson. In singles action, Dellarciprete defeated Stephanie Koot, 6-3, 7-5, in the semifinal round before falling, 6-4, 6-0, to Kathy Robey in the finals.
In women's B doubles, Dellarciprete and von Samson defeated Jeanne Dewet and Gayairi Remesh, 9-7, but fell to Casady Pruitt and Jennifer Ward, 8-5, in the final round.
In women's A singles consolation, No. 2 seed Ornischa Maier-Knapp beat Tara Hartness, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0(8). However, in the final round, Maier-Knapp was knocked off by Saskia van Velze, 7-6, 7-5.
Next, UAB participates in the Robert Allison Fall Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala., starting on Oct. 3.
