Women's Tennis Continues Strong Play At Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. ----- The UAB women's tennis team tallied a 6-4 overall record, including a 3-1 doubles mark, in its first day of competition at the UTC Baras Fall Classic here on Friday. In women's B doubles, Nadia Dellarciprete and Julia von Samson advanced to the finals with a 9-7 win over Jeanne Dewet and Gayairi Remesh, 9-7, to advance to the finals of the women's B doubles.
In women's C singles, Dellarciprete beat Ali Piocente, 6-3, 1-6, 1-0(2) in the round of 16. In quarterfinal action, Dellarciprete defeated Tami McQueen, 6-3, 6-3. She will play in the round of eight on Sunday.
In women's A doubles, Femke de Boer and Annemieke Elsholz defeated Lauren Marie Whisenhunt and Kristen Bowman, 8-4, in the round of 32. In the round of 16, de Boer and Elsholz beat No. 3-seeded Alet Boonzaair and Marina Tasheva, 8-4, to advance to the round of eight, but fell to Myriam Cueva and Eunice Paravicini , 8-5, in the quarterfinal round.
Elsholz lost her round of 16 match in women's C singles, falling to Kathy Robey, 6-4, 6-0. In women's B singles, the Blazers split their two matches 1-1. UAB's von Samson beat Kristen Bowman, 6-0, 6-2, before falling to Simona Folytn, 7-5, 5-7, 1-0(2), in the quarterfinals.
The UTC Baras Fall Classic continues on Sunday, Sept. 28.
