Louisville Claims 1-0 Win Over UAB

HOUSTON ------ The fourth-seeded Louisville softball team defeated No. 6 seed UAB, 1-0, in the second day of action at the Conference USA Championships here Friday at the Cougar Softball Field.
The Blazers, who lost their opening round contest Thursday to host Houston, concluded their season with Friday's defeat.
The game remained scoreless until the top of the fifth inning when Shannon Nord opened with a leadoff single. Nicole Sparks advanced her to second off a sacrifice bunt. Nord would then score when Keola Calderon notched a double to the centerfield wall and gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.
Louisville's Krystle Herold, who relieved starter Aja Sherman in the fourth inning, picked up her seventh win of the season, striking out three. UAB's Kelli Thompson (12-10) pitched a strong game, giving up only eight hits and striking out two.
UAB finish the 2003 season with a 28-28 overall record and a 10-14 conference mark.
