Women's Tennis Beats Birmingham-Southern, 7-0

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB women's tennis team (7-4, 2-1) took the doubles point and won all six singles matches to defeat Birmingham-Southern, 7-0, here Tuesday afternoon at Brook Highland Racquet Club. It was the second time this season the Blazers have defeated the Panthers this season.
"I'm always concerned about playing a team twice in one season, but our team stepped up today" said UAB head coach Mert Ertunga. "I think Birmingham-Southern was more ready to play us today than the first time, but we were also prepared. Our players have been focused for every match this season."
In doubles, the Blazers won the No. 1 and No. 3 matches. UAB's Natascha Immele and Ornischa Maier-Knapp teamed up to defeat Panthers Cammie Nix and Charlotte Kelly, 8-4. At the No. 3 spot, Blazer Femke de Boer and Julia Hoch beat BSC's Daisy Humphrey and Laura Kirk, 8-5.
Birmingham-Southern's duo of Jessica Griffin and Jennifer Williams were victorious over UAB's Nadia Dellarciprete and Yvonne Ernst, 9-8, in the No. 2 doubles match.
In singles, UAB's Natascha Immele defeated the Panther's Griffin, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 1 position. In the No. 2 tilt, BSC's Kelly fell to the Blazers' de Boer, 6-1, 6-0.
UAB's Maier-Knapp beat Birmingham-Southern's Humphrey, 6-3, 6-0, in the No. 4 match. Blazer Hoch was a 6-3, 6-2 winner in her match against BSC's Kirk, in the No. 5 tilt. At the No. 6 position, UAB's Dellarciprete won her fifth-straight match, defeating Nix, 7-5, 6-2.
In the No. 3 match, BSC's Williams took the first set, 6-4, against Blazer Ernst. Ernst battled back to win the second set, 6-4. Ernst clinched the match by winning the tie-breaker set, 11-9.
Next, UAB hosts Samford on Saturday, March 15, at 11:30 a.m. at Brook Highland Racquet Club.
