BIRMINGHAM, Ala.---UAB softball (13-7) hits the road to play the Lady Raiders of Middle Tennessee State (10-5) in doubleheader action on Wednesday, March 12, at 3:00 p.m.
The Blazers and the Lady Raiders have met four times previously with Middle Tennessee winning three of those games. In their last meeting on April 2, 2003, the Blazers split with the Lady Raiders, losing the first game, 3-4, and winning the second, 1-0.
As a team, the Blazers are batting .253 on the season with 136 hits, including 32 doubles (3rd in C-USA), four triples (3rd in C-USA) and nine homeruns (3rd in C-USA).
Senior Candice Hithe leads C-USA in stolen bases with 13 and teammate Cliffanie Engram is fourth in conference with nine.
The Middle Tennessee Lady Raiders have a combined batting average of .279 and a slugging percentage of .379. Megan Cherinka leads the Lady Raiders with a .372 batting average, 16 hits and a homerun. Cherinka has a .488 slugging percentage and a .449 on base percentage.
UAB enters Wednesday's game after playing the Southern Illinois Salukis (9-3) of the Missouri Valley Conference on Tuesday afternoon.
UAB will be back at home on Saturday, March 15, at George Ward Park to open C-USA action with a doubleheader against the Bulls of South Florida, starting at 1 p.m. The Blazers finish the series with the Bulls on March 16, starting at 1 p.m.
