Women's Basketball Team Loses To Memphis, 70-54

MEMPHIS, Tenn. ----- The UAB women's basketball team (8-13, 4-4) turned the ball over a season-high 29 times as it was defeated by the Memphis Lady Tigers, 70-54, here Sunday afternoon.
Memphis' full-court press proved to be the difference in the game, as the Lady Blazers could not hold onto the ball. The Lady Tigers scored 27 points off UAB turnovers and had 18 steals. Meanwhile, the Lady Blazers scored only 10 points off Memphis turnovers and tallied seven steals.
Once again, Natasha Thomas led UAB, recording game-highs of 23 points and 15 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season. Senior Michelle Smith recorded 18 points and had eight boards in the game. The Lady Blazers did not get much help from the bench, as reserves recorded two points and seven rebounds in 52 minutes of play.
The Lady Blazers had trouble shooting, hitting only 18-of-48 field goals for 37.5 percent. UAB's biggest shooting trouble came at the charity stripe, as they hit 57.7 percent for the game, but went 4-of-10 (40.0 percent) in the second half.
Shannon Hamp and Princess Swilley led Memphis (11-11, 4-4) with 16 points each, while Victoria Crawford added 12, including 10 in the second half.
The Lady Blazers return home next weekend to face Southern Miss on Friday, February 14, at 7 p.m. and Tulane on Sunday, February 16, at 2 p.m.
