UAB beat the Trojans in the first contest 2-0, but fell short in game two, 4-2.
Senior Candice Hithe got the Blazers rolling in the fifth inning when she was hit by a pitch and then stole second base. Sophomore Sara Christophel kept the momentum going after reaching on an error and advancing to second. Hithe scored on that same error giving the Blazers a 1-0 lead.
After sophomore Kris Lara singled in the sixth inning, UAB catcher Amanda Ellis reached on a fielder's choice. Kristin Stanfill then singled to bring Ellis home, giving the Blazers a 2-0 lead.
Senior Kerri Foster picked up the win for the Blazers throwing all seven innings. Foster (1-0) had six strikeouts on the day.
In game two, Troy State jumped out to the early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Junior Beth Mullins got the Blazers back in the game after hitting a fourth inning home run that tied the game at 1-1. Kris Lara then reached on an error and eventually scored on a RBI single by Stanfill, giving the Blazers a 2-1 lead.
The Trojans fought back in the sixth inning when Molly Homer reached on a fielder's choice. Kosiba then came in to pinch run for Homer and eventually scored when Kacie Flinn reached on a single, tying the game at 2-2.
In the eighth inning Buehler was placed on second base, as international rules went into effect during extra innigs. Buehler then stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kosiba. Flater reached on an error and eventually scored, giving the Trojans a lead 4-2.
Kelli Thompson (0-1) took the loss for the Blazers. Thompson recorded four strikeouts on the day.
"In the second game, we swung the bats very aggressively and didn't have any strikeouts, I think that is a huge accomplishment," said UAB head coach Marla Townsend. "We want to be in every single game this year, and we did that tonight."
"We looked like we had played several games out here today and I am very pleased with the way the girls played," said Townsend.
The Blazers are back in action at home on Wednesday, February 12 against Mississippi State at 6:00 p.m.
