Women's Tennis Falls At Mississippi State, 6-1

STARKVILLE, Miss. ----- The UAB women's tennis team (0-1) fell to Mississippi State, 6-1, in its first match of the spring season in Starkville on Saturday afternoon. The Blazers one point of the day came when senior Natascha Immele won at the No. 1 position, defeating MSU's Magdi Rekasi, 5-7, 6-1, 6-3.
Immele teamed with Femke de Boer to win the No. 1 doubles position over the Lady Bulldogs' Anastasia Kugakolova and Rekasi, 8-6. However, MSU won the doubles point for the match with victories from the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. At No. 2, Elaine Fagan and Yumi Ueda won 8-6 over Lady Blazers' Yvonne Ernst and Nadia Dellarciprete. Marcelle Hirt and Justyna Switala defeated Julia Hoch and Ornischa Maier-Knapp 8-2 at No. 3.
UAB played the Lady Bulldogs tough in the singles matches, forcing three sets in five different matches. Unfortunately, MSU was victorious in four of the five. Hirt was victorious over deBoer 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 at the No. 2 position. At No. 3, Kugakolova won her three-set match, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2, over Ernst. The final Lady Bulldog to finish her match was No. 4 Ueda, as she defeated Maier-Knapp 7-5, 4-6, 6-2. Switala came back from down 0-3 in the third set to win her match against Hoch, 2-6, 6-1, 7-5. At No. 6, Fagan defeated Dellarciprete, 7-5, 6-0.
