Former UAB Goalkeepr Clint Baumstark Makes First Career Start In MLS

WASHINGTON, D.C. ----- Former UAB goalkeeper Clint Baumstark made his Major League Soccer debut with D.C. United against the Columbus Crew here Saturday night. Baumstark led D.C. United to a 1-1 draw with Columbus at Crew Stadium in a critical intra-conference showdown.
Baumstark, who played at UAB in 2001 and 2002, was a late call-up by United to replace Doug Warren, who returned home to attend to family matters. Baumstark will join the United States U-20 National Team, led by former D.C. Head Coach Thomas Rongen, in Los Angeles on Monday in preparation for a friendly match against Japan.
"I am extremely proud and happy for Clint," UAB men's soccer head coach Mike Getman said. "This says a lot about his work ethic and his talent. He was always one of the hardest working guys on the team and all that hard work is paying off. Clint left school early to chase his dream of playing Major League Soccer and he has accompished that dream."
The Thornton, Colo. native holds several UAB records during his two-year sint with the Blazers. He set the records for single-season shutouts (9) and the goals against average for a career (1.02). He also ranks third in all-time shuotus with 13, despite just playing for two seasons.
Baumstark joined up with D.C. United and current U.S. National team members Earnie Stewart and Bobby Convey, along with MLS superstar Marco Etcheverry.
