Women's Tennis Continues Good Play At Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ----- The UAB women's tennis team continued its strong play in the second day of the 2003 Roberta Alison Classic here on Saturday, as Blazers Ornischa Maier-Knapp and Annemieke Elsholz both advanced to the third round of their respective singles flights.
In Flight B, Maier-Knapp defeated Samford's Emily Nunnally, 6-4, 6-3, to advance, while Elsholz beat Chattanooga's Lauren Snipes, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, in Flight F. UAB's duo of Elsholz and Julia von Samson won their Flight D doubles match over Samford's Bothany Benson and Emily White, 8-1.
UAB's other doubles pair, Femke de Boer and Maier-Knapp fell to Florida State's Amber Tantee and Daniela Gheorgho, 8-6, in Flight A doubles.
In other second-round action, UAB's de Boer lost to Louisiana-Monroe's Veronica Perez, 6-4, 6-3, in Flight A, while Marrita Jansma was defeated by Samford's Krista Polulak, 7-5, 4-6, 7-5, in Flight D. Auburn's Evan Epps was victorious over von Samson, 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 in Flight E. Nadia Dellarciprete was beaten by Alabama's Mari Muller, 7-6, 6-2 in Flight H.
The tournament concludes on Sunday, Oct. 5.
