Women's Tennis Successful In First Day At Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. ----- The UAB women's tennis team tallied a 6-4 overall record, including a 3-1 doubles mark, in its first day of competition at the UTC Baras Fall Classic here on Friday.
In women's A doubles, Femke de Boer and Annemieke Elsholz defeated Lauren Marie Whisenhunt and Kristen Bowman, 8-4, in the round of 32. Next, in the round of 16, de Boer and Elsholz beat no. 3-seeded Alet Boonzaair and Marina Tasheva, 8-4, to advance to the round of eight.
In women's B doubles, Nadia Dellarciprete and Julia von Samson were victorious over Beth Flanagan and Becks Garner, 8-3, in the round of 16. UAB's lone doubles loss came in women's A doubles, as Marrit Jansma and Ornischa Maier-Knapp fell to Ania Dolinska and Karmelina Rivera, 8-2, in the round of 32.
The Blazers posted a 3-3 singles record on the day. In women's C singles, UAB won both matches in the round of 32. Elsholz defeated Katie Chester, 6-1, 6-0, while Dellarciprete was victorious after Radha Bharathi withdrew with an injury.
In women's B singles, the Blazers split their two matches 1-1. UAB's von Samson beat Julie McDonald, 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the round of 16. Blazer Jansma fell to Julie Mages, 6-4, 1-6, 1-0(9) in the round of 32.
The Blazers dropped both matches in the round of 32 in women's A singles. No. 2-seed Maier-Knapp fell to Tasheva, 7-5, 6-1, while de Boer was defeated by Ellen Rogers, 6-4, 1-6, 1-0(3).
The UTC Baras Fall Classic continues on Saturday, Sept. 27.
