Women's Tennis Wraps Up Fall Season At Regionals

ATHENS, Ga. ----- The UAB women's tennis team finished competition at the 2003 ITA Southern Regional Championships held here at the University of Georgia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Annemieke Elsholz was the only Blazer to survive consolation action today, but Elsholz decided to withdraw from her last match for travel reasons.
In consolation "B" singles, Elsholz defeated Mississippi State's Brittany Serret, 6-3, 6-4, and then beat Auburn's Erin Gray, 6-4, 0-6, 6-3. Elsholz was posed to play Jenny Paul of Auburn on Monday, but elected to withdraw.
In other consolation "B" singles matches, Julia von Samson was victorious over Troy State's Laura Alarcon, 6-2, 6-1, before falling to Luisa Obando of South Florida, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0. UAB's Julia Dellarciprete lost her match to Paul, 6-3, 6-3, while Marritt Jansma fell to Troy State's Suzanne Jones, 6-4, 6-2.
In "A" singles consolation action, Ornischa Maier-Knapp lost to South Florida's Lord Andrade, 6-2, 6-2.
The Blazers have concluded their fall season and will begin play in 2004 at Chattanooga on Jan. 30.
